Background and statistics

According to research by Brien Holden Vision Institute in collaboration with the World Health Organization, it is indicated that:
-
By 2050, half of the world’s population will be myopic; about 5 billion people
-
Of these, one billion will have high myopia
-
Myopia will be the main cause of permanent blindness worldwide
As a result of these statistics, Janelle begins to imagine that her life without glasses would be different in a world where no one could see clearly beyond their nose. She feels that the world would be more friendly. However, on the trip she experiences a lack of interest in the environment, requiring more effort to connect with her surrounds; it is not an intentional disinterest, rather, it is generated by Janelle’s short sightedness.. That is to say, to live certain experiences one has to approach the object of interest which often takes courage.
